While Sugaring doesn’t normally cause breakouts, or at least not like waxing used to do to my skin. It can be common to get those pesky little white bumps a few days after a sugaring service. There are a number of reasons unfortunately, but I will do my best to explain them the best I can. And most importantly tell you how to deal with the little white pimples of doom.
Quite frankly, the more washed, scrubbed and touched your skin is, the more likely it is to get those bumps. Whiteheads are simply bacteria that has been in a pore of your skin, and your body is pushing it out. It’s not a bad thing to have a “reasonable” amount of them. You almost never see these kinds of bumps in older skin, because the skin just doesn’t have the oil. And oil is moisture, youth and the reason folks say certain skin types “don’t crack”.
It depends on the area being Sugared, the state of the skin during the service and what you do after. For example, I sugared the crap out of my face one night. I absolutley LOVE having my face sugared, and being a professional sugaring lady-person. When I am two pot brownies deep, I always seem to do this. I head to my bathroom, grab my closet old as crap sugaring paste that I made last Christmas. And I don’t even remember using witch hazel prior. Why? I’m a intoxicated professional thats why. I got every stinking hair on my aging almost 40 maybe, face. My face looked ten years younger! So now I’m a stoned 30 something with a pretty face. What do I do? Order Pizza, naturally. I ate so much crap that night, and I am a messy eater. So all those food oils are now all over my stupid face, and I think I washed it maybe the next morning.
But Atlas! I remember what its like to get those little white bumps on your face after a Sugaring. So now I can help you all not to go down the same dangerous path. SO here are some things you can avoid after a sugaring, in order of importance:
- Sugar More Often!
Yes, this one is the best way to avoid these little terrors. Just by simply sugaring 4 to 6 weeks you can avoid the bumps. Generally it is by removing hair that has been on your body for years that unleashes years worth of invisible bacteria. I generally warn brides not to do a face sugar for the first time week of the wedding. Just shave girl, I ain’t gonna judge. - Avoid Oily Anything After (like pizza)
Pretty self explanatory right? Not a good night for pizza or balsamic vinaigrette. No oily or thick lotions, and please stop touching your face. Like never unless your hands be clean AF. - No Freaking HOT TUBS
Just generally they are gross, but the bacteria in a typical hot tub is enough to bring life to Mars. This goes for our Oceans, Pools, Saunas, and sometimes bathtubs. A good trick to taking a anti-fungal bath is cleaning it with bleach prior. Some people even put like a Tablespoon of bleach in their tubs for infections. I don’t know about that but here is the Clorox rabbit hole. - Use a Good Witch Hazel After
I should really buy those cute little bottles of witch hazel to give to clients after a face sugaring. But I hate plastic and am very torn! But everyone should have a good emergency witch hazel in their medicine cabinet. Learn about Witch Hazel. But basically it gently disinfects. - When in Doubt, Consult The SUN
I know, this sounds like a Goop article now right? But legit, the sun naturally sterilizes and disinfects your skin. Light spectrums do that, how cool!
I sort of feel like the sun treats our skin like a plant. Too much and the plant dies, but just enough promotes growth and health. Usually 10-15 min bursts to find your sunny sweet spot. I know this though, I almost never break out in the summer with those long sunny days. And here we are in January and my face is a reck. The sun also promotes your immune system. But the best way to help your skin before a big event is of course… WATER FASTING!
Wishing you all a Good Skin Day!
